How do I get paid in dollars by a foreign client when Wise and Stripe don’t work?
The safest option is still a direct transfer from your client to your foreign currency account at an Algerian bank. Payoneer and PayPal work too, as long as you move the money to that account straight away. Wise and Stripe aren’t open to Algerian residents, and RedotPay runs on crypto, which is banned.

Payoneer lets you withdraw your earnings to an Algerian bank account in your name. To stay within the rules and keep your foreign currency, withdraw in euros or dollars to your professional foreign currency account, for a project you’ve declared to your bank, and don’t leave the money sitting on Payoneer.

No, as long as you declare your project to your bank and bring the money home on time. Then every euro or dollar lands in your foreign currency account. Your bank converts it to dinars in only two cases: you skipped the declaration, or the money came home late.

On Upwork, Fiverr or Deel, the legal route is the same: the money goes from the platform to your foreign currency account in Algeria, directly or through Payoneer, on the day it becomes available. Upwork also needs a US tax form (W-8BEN) with your Algerian tax number before your first withdrawal.

Look for jobs open "worldwide" or to your region, not every "remote" job. A real employer has a website, a careers page, an interview process and a written contract. They never ask you for money. And you’ll almost always be paid as a contractor, so plan for the auto-entrepreneur route.

Buying a "verified" account, paying a middleman to open an account abroad, or selling your balance for dinars: these services are all over Facebook and Telegram. All of them are illegal for a resident, and they’re also where scammers like to work.

In mid-October 2026, one euro was worth about DZD 151 at the bank and about DZD 275 on the Port-Saïd square in Algiers. That gap pushes many freelancers to sell their foreign currency on the black market, which is an exchange-control offence punished by prison. The legal route is to keep your earnings in foreign currency and only convert to dinars what you need.

I’m moving abroad (Chancenkarte, EU Blue Card): when do I stop being an Algerian resident?
For exchange control, you stay an Algerian resident as long as your main centre of economic activity is in Algeria. A foreign address or a passport isn’t enough. Once the centre of your work really is abroad, the Algerian rules on assets abroad no longer apply to what you earn there.
